#1031 The triumph over it

(Over the next several months I am focusing on individual authors rather than themes.  Hopefully each of the five quotes will be enlightening and inspiring, providing hope in the human condition.)

As I have said, the first thing is to be honest with yourself. You can never have an impact on society if you have not changed yourself.... Great peacemakers are all people of integrity, of honesty, but humility.

A good head and good heart are always a formidable combination. But when you add to that a literate tongue or pen, then you have something very special.

As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.

The curious beauty of African music is that it uplifts even as it tells a sad tale. You may be poor, you may have only a ramshackle house, you may have lost your job, but that song gives you hope.

- How much do you allow your light to shine?
- To what extent have you triumphed over several of your fears?
- What music provides you with hope and inspiration?
